JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters were unable to complete the series sweep as they fell 2-0 to North Florida at Harmon Stadium on Sunday afternoon. After tallying ten runs in a thrilling extra innings win over the Ospreys on Saturday night, the Hatters were held scoreless on four hits, one of which came from Kyle Jones, who hit one of the two home runs in the top of the tenth last night. His single in the third inning on Sunday also extended his on-base streak to 31 games now.
Senior Daniel Paret, now 5-3 on the season, got the starting nod for the finale but took the loss on the mound for Stetson, who falls to 28-16 on the year and 14-7 in conference play. The southpaw went five innings, giving up just one run on four hits, while allowing four walks and striking out two.
While the Ospreys out-hit Stetson 6-4, their two runs came off of home runs as the Stetson staff held North Florida to 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. Notably, Paret escaped a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth with just one out, keeping North Florida from capitalizing. Stetson's pitchers faced 33 North Florida batters in the game, forcing 14 ground balls and five fly balls while striking out three.
Stetson did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hatters went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fifth, when junior Yohann Dessureault made it into scoring position with one out.
In addition to Jones and Dessureault, Lorenzo Meola and Evan Griffis also recorded hits. The former of the two came off a 5 RBI performance on Saturday, a team single-game high this season.
The Hatters return to action at 6:00 PM on Tuesday as they head to Tampa for a date with the USF Bulls. When they last met on April 2, the Hatters run ruled the Bulls in 8 innings, plating a season-high 19 runs. The game is set to be played at USF Baseball Stadium with streaming on ESPN+.
