DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters and Florida State Seminoles squared off for the second time this season on Tuesday night, when the Hatters welcomed FSU to Melching Field at Conrade Park looking to avenge a 1-0 loss in Talahassee on March 19. While the season's first meeting saw the teams combine for a single run on six hits, Tuesday night was the polar opposite, with Stetson picking up a 10-5 win while outhitting the Seminoles 11-8.
Stetson (34-19) would us a single from third baseman
Isaiah Barkett and a walk from catcher
Gio Cueto to threaten in the bottom of the first, before opening the game's scoring in a big way in the second. Shortstop
Lorenzo Meola got things started in the frame launching his fifth home run of the season well over the fence in left field to put the Hatters up 1-0. Following a deep foul-out to left field, second baseman
Yohann Dessureault worked a 3-1 count before turning on one and depositing it into the parking lot in right field. The next pitch would suffer a similar fate, as left fielder
Evan Griffis homered to the left of the scoreboard in left-center field to put Stetson up 3-0. Two pitches later centerfielder
Kyle Jones got in on the action, taking a 1-1 offering and clearing the fence in left for Stetson's third-consecutive home run and a 4-0 lead.
Florida State (37-13) got on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning before resetting the score at 4-4 with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Stetson responded immediately, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring five times to open up a 9-5 lead. Meola got the inning started with his second home run of the night, this one to centerfield, before a single from Dessureault and walks from Griffis and Jones loaded the bases. A fielder's choice from Barkett plated Dessureault to push the lead to 6-4, before right fielder
Logan Hughes tripled off the wall in left to plate both runners and make it 8-4 Hatters. Catcher
Gio Cueto worked a walk and first baseman
Landon Moran capped the inning off, ripping a single through the left side to plate Hughes for the 9-4 advantage.
The Seminoles jumped to respond, loading the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh, but right-hander
TJ Melani came out of the bullpen and slammed the door. The sophomore struck out the first batter he saw, and Cueto added a pick-off at first on the third strike, before a foul-out to right field saw Stetson escape the jam unscathed.
Dessureault made FSU pay for the missed opportunity, planting a 3-2 pitch off the scoreboard in right field to lead off the bottom of the inning, putting Stetson up 10-4.

Melani would continue to roll, retiring the Seminoles in order in the eighth and allowing just a solo home run in the ninth to pick up his first save.
Dylan Jacobs got the start for the Hatters and worked 5.1 innings while allowing a single earned run on six hits and a pair of walks with three strikeouts.
Brendan Walker (2-0) earned the win in relief, working 0.2 innings and surrendering one hit, while Melanin picked up the save on the back of 3.0 innings of one hit, one run relief. He struck out one and walked one.
Stetson wraps up the regular season at home this weekend, welcoming Central Arkansas to DeLand. The Hatters and Bears will square off at 6:30 PM on Thursday and Friday night, and 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. Stetson, who has already clinched a spot in the 2024 ASUN Championship Tournament, will then play host to the league's seven other top teams beginning next Tuesday.
