Stetson softball split with North Florida Friday night.
Nadia English walked off the first game for the Hatters giving them a 3-2 victory before falling 2-0 in game two.
Hannah Marien was in the circle for Stetson in the first game and gave up two runs in the top of the third. She was able to keep traffic to a minimum and work out of jams to keep the Ospreys from tacking on any more runs. Marien picked up the win going seven innings, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out two batters.
Stetson was kept off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Madelyn Synoracki led off the inning with a single through the left side.
Nadia English followed her with a single through the right side.
Lath Freeman was able to move both runners into scoring position.
Kami Eppley hit an infield single that brought in Synoracki but the defense got English out at third just after the run crossed the plate.
Down one going into the bottom of the seventh,
Haley Fox got a pinch-hit infield single and a sacrifice bunt by
Michelle DiPuma moved her over to second.
Gia Napoli came up with two outs and hit a ground ball to short. Fox screened the shortstop as she ran past, and the shortstop made a fielding error putting runners on the corners for Synoracki. Synoracki laced one down the left field line bringing in Fox.
Nadia English finished it off the comeback with a single into center and bringing in Napoli to score.
Game two of the night was a pitching duel between
Lauren Hobbs and Halle Arendes. Hobbs went seven innings giving up seven hits, one walk and struck out two. Out of the two runs given up only one was earned. Hobbs was able to limit any damage from being done in the first six innings by working out of jams that allowed the Hatters a chance to get the offense going. Unfortunately, Stetson drew four walks but only tallied two hits. The Ospreys scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but the Hatters were unable to answer falling 2-0.
Stetson and North Florida will complete the series Saturday, May 4 at 4pm.
