DeLand, Fla. - Abramo Canka, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, comes to DeLand and Stetson's Men's Basketball Team from Wake Forest.
Canka appeared in 15 games for the Demon Deacons and prior to playing there, he attended UCLA. While at UCLA Canka appeared in 22 games and shot 44.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.
Before coming over to the United States, the Genoa, Itay native played in several international leagues. In 2021-22 he played for Nevėžis Kėdainiai in the Lithuanian Basketball League averaging 7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists per game in 17 games. Canka played for the same team once again in 2021-22, averaging 7.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals in nine games. Also in 2021-22, Canka played for Lokmotiv Kuban, a professional Russian team based in Krasnodar. In 16 games in Russian Superleague 1, he averaged 10.9 points and 3.7 rebounds.
While in Italy, Canka was a member of the U20 Italy National Team for the European Championships during the summer of 2022 where he averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in seven games.
According to 24/7 Sports, Canka was ranked as the #1 player of Italy. He was also ranked a top 35 small forward and the 151
st best player for the Class of 2022. Canka was also projected as a second-round pick before deciding to attend UCLA and remains projected as a potential second round pick for the 2025 NBA draft.
Canka joins transfers Jordan Wood, Mehki Ellison, Josh Massey, Blaize Sagna, and Louie Tucker along with freshman Stefano Alesso as part of the Hatter's incoming class.
