DeLand, Fla. — Stetson University Men's Soccer is proud to announce the addition of ten talented newcomers to the squad for the upcoming 2024 season. This diverse group of transfers and true freshmen brings a wide array of skills and experiences, bolstering the Hatters as they prepare for another competitive season ahead.
Sophomore transfer Luke Lenz joins the Hatters from West Virginia University, where he was part of a squad that achieved the nation's top ranking, finished as runners-up in the Sun Belt Conference, and advanced to the College Cup semifinals in 2023. A former USL Academy All-Star, Lenz was the second-leading goalscorer on his team before his collegiate career. His explosiveness and 1v1 attacking prowess are a strength of Lenz as he expects to by a dynamic force for Stetson.
Florida native Mauricio Restrepo arrives at Stetson as a true freshman after a distinguished youth career with Inter Miami FC and Miami Rush. A striker known for his speed and ability to drive, Restrepo will look to make an immediate impact. His achievements include winning a high school state championship in 2021 and being selected for the 2022/23 MLS Next Best of U19 match.
Sophomore Maurice Hauser transfers to Stetson from Coastal Carolina, where he impressed with 4 goals and 1 assist in his debut collegiate season. Originally from Germany, Hauser brings high-level experience from playing in the U19 Bundesliga, U19 DFB Pokal, and Regionalliga. His mentality, discipline, and risk-taking abilities will add depth and versatility to the Hatters' attack.
True freshman Haytham Abdallah from Orlando, Florida, joins Stetson after an outstanding high school and club soccer career. Abdallah was a key player for Florida Kraze Krush (FKK) Orlando and East Ridge High School, where he won a state championship and earned national rankings. He also helped lead FKK Orlando to the ECNL National Final and was named to the ECNL Florida All-Conference team. His soccer IQ, decision-making, and passing range make him a promising addition to the midfield.
Freshman Xavier Manning from Halifax, Canada, brings international experience to the Hatters. A physical center-back, Manning has played at a high level with the Halifax Wanderers youth teams and won the Canadian Youth Cup. He also led his high school team to a regional championship. Manning's strengths in 1v1 defending, on-ball skills, and leadership qualities will bolster Stetson's defense.
Sophomore midfielder Adam Benrahou is a local talent from Daytona Beach. Born and raised playing soccer in the area, Benrahou is eager to represent his home county at the highest collegiate level while adding depth to the Hatters' midfield.
Freshman Joao Freitas comes to Stetson from Lisbon, Portugal. A talented defender, Freitas brings with him a wealth of experience and quality, having won with Liga Revelação U23. He also has close ties with the team, as he is friends with last year's ASUN All-Freshman team member and fellow Portuguese native, Afonso Conde. Freitas will be a key addition to the Hatters' defensive lineup.
Benjamin Donato, a holding midfielder from Fort Myers, Florida, joins the Hatters. A product of the Inter Miami CF Academy and the Puerto Rico Senior National Team, Donato brings significant experience and a strong defensive presence to Stetson's midfield.
Clarence Loriot arrives from Paris, France, as a strong, versatile midfielder who will add valuable experience to the squad while his international background and skillset are expected to help contribute to the team's dynamic.
Rounding out the newcomers is freshman Andre Casas from Hollywood, Florida. Casas joins Stetson from the Inter Miami U19 Academy and has already gained experience with the senior Puerto Rican National Team. A strong center-back, Casas was named to the 2023 All-County School Team and was a regional finalist. His defending skills and game IQ are expected to be key assets for the Hatters this season.
The new look Hatters will open their season on Friday, August 23, as they hit the road to face UNC Asheville at 7:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
