Senior Day Spoiled in 3-2 Loss to Eckerd

DeLAND, Fla. – Senior Day at the Athletic Training Center was bittersweet for the Stetson Hatters, who suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to the visiting Eckerd Tritons on Tuesday night. Despite goals from senior Charles Ahl and freshman Andre Casas, the Hatters' unbeaten streak dating back to early September came to an end as they fall to 2-4-2 on the season.

Prior to kickoff, the Hatters celebrated the contributions of seniors Charles Ahl, Rafael Pinzon, Tavon Mussenden, Gabriel Toro, Ben Peterson, and Giuseppe Croce during a pre-match ceremony.

The Tritons took an early lead with a pair of goals in the 20th and 26th minutes, putting Stetson in an early hole. However, the Hatters were determined to respond. Team captain Charles Ahl gave the home crowd something to cheer about, netting his first goal of the season in spectacular fashion. Ahl's free kick from outside the box found the top right corner at the 39:20 mark, cutting Eckerd's lead to 2-1 before the break.

Stetson dominated the stat sheet in the first half, outshooting Eckerd 8-4 and earning five corner kicks. That relentless pressure finally paid off again in the 74th minute when freshman Andre Casas scored his first career collegiate goal. Set up by Andres Rodriguez after a well-executed corner kick, Casas' equalizer gave the Hatters new life.

Unfortunately, Eckerd would strike the decisive blow in the 83rd minute, reclaiming the lead and ultimately securing the win.

Javier Barbosa made his first career start in net for Stetson, facing five shots and making two saves in the match.

The Hatters will look to rebound as they close out their homestand on Saturday, September 28, against FGCU. Kickoff at the ATC is set for 7:00 PM.
