Hatters’ Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Bellarmine

Carter-Hartley shines in loss with double-double

DeLAND, Fla. – Despite a strong performance from Diawna Carter-Hartley, who recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Stetson fell 67-52 to Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon at the Insight Credit Union Arena.

The loss marked just the second at home for the Hatters (10-10, 4-4 ASUN). Cameron Thomas was the team's leading scorer with 16 points—all coming in the second half—while Quentarra Mitchell filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Stetson finished the game with seven blocks, one shy of its season high, with Carter-Hartley leading the way with four.

The Hatters fell behind early, trailing 22-12 after the first quarter. Bellarmine extended its lead to 28-17 before Stetson answered with a 6-0 run, capped by a Carter-Hartley basket, to pull within five. A deep three from Promise Keshi at the buzzer trimmed the deficit to 30-26 at halftime.

After the break, Bellarmine built a 44-31 advantage before Stetson responded with a 5-0 run, punctuated by a Thomas layup, to close the gap to 44-36. The Hatters knocked down four three-pointers in the third quarter but still trailed 53-44 entering the fourth.

Stetson carried that momentum into the final frame, opening with an 8-0 run, capped by a Jorah Eppley three-pointer, to make it a one-point game with 7:42 remaining. However, Bellarmine took control down the stretch, outscoring the Hatters the rest of the way to secure the win.

Stetson will return to action Thursday, Jan. 30, hosting Austin Peay for Elementary Day at 11:00 a.m.
