Copeland Earns Newcomer of the Week as Hatters Prepare for Wright State

DeLand, Fla. — Stetson men's basketball closes out its three-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 27, hosting Wright State at 7:00 p.m. in a matchup presented by Culver's. The Hatters also picked up weekly honors as junior transfer Ethan Copeland was named ASUN Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Stetson enters the week riding a 2–0 stretch, highlighted by a hard-fought 64–60 win over Howard and a dominant 99–80 victory over VMI. After grinding out a close second half against the Bison, the Hatters exploded offensively versus the Keydets, knocking down a program-record 21 three-pointers and tying another program mark with 30 assists.

Against VMI, Copeland, Jamie Phillips Jr., and Alex Doyle all surpassed the 20-point mark — the first Stetson trio to do so in the same game since 2016. Copeland led the way with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including seven three-pointers, while adding six assists and a steal on his way to earning Newcomer of the Week honors. Phillips Jr. followed with 24 points (9-of-15 FG, 3-of-7 3PT), eight rebounds, and three assists. Doyle posted a career-best 21 points, going 7-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-11 from three, along with four rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Calvin Sirmans III continued to steer the offense effectively, recording a season-high 10 assists against the Keydets. As a team, Stetson is shooting 43 percent from the field, 37 percent from three, and 63 percent from the free-throw line on the season.

Wright State enters the matchup at 3–3 after a decisive 100–47 win over Ohio Wesleyan. Michael Cooper leads the Raiders with 14.0 points per game, followed by Michael Imariagbe at 11.0 per contest. Andrea Holden anchors the interior with 6.0 rebounds per game and a team-leading nine blocks. Cooper and Burch share the team lead in assists with 18 apiece, while Woods sits just behind them with 17. As a group, Wright State is averaging 81 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field, 36 percent from three, and 65 percent at the line.

This will be the fourth meeting between Stetson and Wright State, with the Hatters holding a 3–0 advantage in the all-time series, all played during the 1970s.
