CLARKSVILLE, TN – Jamie Phillips Jr. and Jordan Wood combined for 38 points, but the Hatters were defeated by the Austin Peay Governors, 76-63, on the road Saturday.
Stetson fell behind early in the first half, trailing by double digits. Blaize Sagna reached the 1,000-point milestone with two free throws, and the Hatters followed with a quick 5-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Phillips Jr., narrowing the gap to 29-19. Stetson kept battling and went on another 6-0 run just before halftime, pulling within four points, but they went into the break trailing 38-31.
After halftime, the Hatters continued to chip away at the deficit, getting as close as four points again on another three-pointer from Phillips Jr. However, that would be as close as Stetson would get, as they fell 76-63.
Phillips Jr. led the Hatters with a career-high 26 points, while Wood added 12 points. Stetson out-rebounded Austin Peay 29-27, with Josh Massey pulling down seven boards.
The Hatters will return home to face North Florida on Tuesday, February 18. The game, sponsored by Culver's, will tip off at 7:00 p.m.
