Hatters Split Day 2 of Stetson Invitational

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson softball split the second day of the Stetson Invitational, winning 8-0 in five innings against Long Island before falling to Marist 6-2.

Caitlin Mullen got the start in the circle for the Hatters, earning her second win of the season. She pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out one.

Stetson got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Amber Chumley doubled to left-center, and Kami Eppley drew a walk. Nadia English then hit her first home run of the season, giving the Hatters a 3-0 lead. The two-out rally continued as Gabby David singled to right, and Emily Santana followed with a single through the left side to put runners on first and second. Devon Weller then lined a double into left-center, bringing both runners home to extend the lead to 5-0. Gia Napoli added a double, bringing in Weller to make it 6-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Napoli singled to bring Addison Foster to the plate. Foster then hit a walk-off home run to right field, securing an 8-0 victory for the Hatters in five innings.

In the second game, Caitlyn Kulczyski started for Stetson, pitching four innings. Marist jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, but Dylan Anthony answered for Stetson with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning.

Ava Braswell came in for relief in the top of the fifth, and Marist capitalized on two doubles to add another run, making it 4-1. The Red Foxes then added two more runs in the top of the seventh, extending their lead to 6-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Napoli singled and came around to score on a single by Foster, but Stetson's comeback attempt fell short as they lost 6-2.

The Hatters will wrap up the Stetson Invitational against Florida Atlantic at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 23.
