DeLAND, Fla. – Junior Isaiah Barkett went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, but the Stetson Hatters fell to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 8-2, on Sunday afternoon at Melching Field. After dropping Saturday night's contest to Iowa, the Hatters couldn't overcome an early deficit, finishing the weekend 1-2 and moving to 4-3 on the season.
Right-hander Mason Davenport got the start for Stetson and took the loss. The Hatters used seven relievers, with junior Ethan Salak standing out, tossing 1.2 shutout innings while allowing just one hit, no walks, and striking out two. Brendan Walker and Ty Van Dyke also contributed scoreless outings in relief.
Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Stetson got on the board with two runs, including an RBI double from Barkett. However, Notre Dame responded with four more runs to pull away for the 8-2 victory.
The Hatters now turn their attention to No. 10 Florida, as they host the Gators at Melching Field on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. Last season, Stetson set a program attendance record when they upset then-No. 4 Florida at home.
