ATHENS, Ga. – The Stetson Hatters dropped their opening game 9-1 to Ohio State before putting up a strong fight in a 5-2 loss to the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs.
Hayley Arnold started for the Hatters against Ohio State but struggled, taking the loss after three innings of work. Stetson fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but got one run back when Kami Eppley's sac fly brought home Gia Napoli. However, the Hatters couldn't get any closer as Ohio State added five more runs to seal the 9-1 victory.
In their second game against Georgia, Stetson got off to a strong start, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Dylan Anthony hit a double down the right field line to give the Hatters, and starter Kennedy Temples, a 2-0 lead. Temples had a solid outing, going three innings while allowing just three hits, one walk, and one run. Heading into the fourth inning, Stetson held a 2-1 lead. However, the Bulldogs struck for four runs in the fourth, and the Hatters were unable to respond, ultimately falling 5-2.
Stetson will look to bounce back on Day 2 of the Bulldog Classic when they face UMBC at 10:30 a.m. and No. 10 Georgia at 1:00 p.m.
