Four Hatters Complete Hat Trick in 17-10 Win Over Stonehill

In a dominant performance, the Stetson Hatters secured a 17-10 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks in women's lacrosse on Monday afternoon. Kaitlin Pani, Samantha King, Kathleen Nichols, and Miya Scanlan each recorded a hat trick, with Pani leading the way with five goals.

Pani kicked off the scoring for Stetson just 35 seconds into the game on a pass from Scanlan. Kornacki and Nichols added goals before Pani scored her second to give the Hatters a 4-0 lead. Stonehill answered with a goal under three minutes left, but King responded with her first goal of the game. As the first quarter came to a close, Pani took a shot that found the back of the net as time expired, completing her hat trick.

With a 7-1 lead heading into the second quarter, both teams were met with strong goalie performances. Stonehill scored twice in the period, but Katie Kornacki added one more for the Hatters, giving Stetson an 8-3 advantage at halftime.

The Hatters came out firing after the break, scoring five unanswered goals. Four of those came in a span of just one minute and nine seconds. Pani started the run, followed by goals from Scanlan and King. King's second goal of the contest marked her 100th career goal. Nichols and King capped off the surge, with King completing her hat trick. Stonehill responded with a goal, but Nichols answered with her third of the game. The Skyhawks added one more before the end of the quarter, but Scanlan finished off her hat trick, giving Stetson a commanding 15-5 lead.

Pani opened the fourth quarter with a goal, and after two Stonehill goals, Heidi Cross got in on the action with her first goal of the game. The Hatters swapped goalies, with Catherine Downes replacing Maddie Eckert for the final three and a half minutes. Eckert had an outstanding performance, making five saves on 12 attempts for a .417 save percentage. The Skyhawks scored three more goals, but it wasn't enough as Stetson secured the 17-10 victory.

Up next, the Hatters will face Manhattan in DeLand on Sunday, March 16, at 1:00 p.m.
