Hylton Notches 4 RBIs in Stetson's 7-3 win over FGCU

Hatters take series win over the Eagles

DeLAND, FL – Junior Jayden Hylton drove in four RBIs to lead the Stetson Hatters to a 7-3 victory over the FGCU Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Melching Field, securing Stetson's first regular season series win over the Eagles since 2021.

Sophomore Jake Gorelick (2-0) earned the win in relief for Stetson (11-10, 2-1), pitching two shutout innings with one hit allowed, no walks, and three strikeouts. Mason Davenport started for the Hatters but was a no-decision after four innings, striking out four. Senior Ty Van Dyke closed out the game with three shutout innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out six. The Stetson pitching staff combined to strike out 13 FGCU batters and limited the Eagles to just 1-for-8 (.125) with runners in scoring position.

Despite going 1-for-4 at the plate, Hylton drove in four RBIs for the Hatters. Lorenzo Meola and Foster Apple each recorded multi-hit games, while Landon Moran went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Junior Landon Russell also contributed with two RBIs. As a team, the Hatters out-hit the Eagles 8-6.

The Hatters got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Stetson plated two runs off of FGCU pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Moran. The Eagles then tied the ballgame at two before the Hatters came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. Apple came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stetson, which brought the Hatters lead to 3-2.

After FGCU tied the game at 3-3, the Hatters broke the game open in the fifth inning with a four-run outburst. Russell and Hylton each delivered two-run singles to extend Stetson's lead to 7-3, where it remained for the rest of the game.

The Hatters will return to action at Melching Field on Tuesday night, hosting the UCF Knights at 6:30 PM.
