DeLand, Fla. – Stetson softball dropped their midweek doubleheader to USF 9-1 in game 1 and 8-0 in game 2.
In Game 1,
Hayley Arnold started in the circle for Stetson, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits.
Caitlyn Kulczyski relieved Arnold, tossing 3.0 innings and giving up four runs on six hits while striking out one. Mullen entered in the bottom of the sixth, pitching 0.2 innings and surrendering one run on three hits.
Trailing 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Stetson managed to score their only run of the game.
Annabella McClerren reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop, and
Madelyn Synoracki and
Dylan Anthony followed with back-to-back singles to bring her home. However, the Hatters couldn't add any more runs, and they fell 9-1 in six innings.
Ava Braswell got the start in Game 2, pitching two innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits while walking three batters.
Kennedy Temples came in for relief in the third inning, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two. Kulczyski made her second appearance of the day, throwing a scoreless inning with one walk and one strikeout.
Devon Weller provided the Hatters' lone hit of the game, a double down the left field line. That was all the offense Stetson was able to supply falling 8-0 in five innings.
Stetson will host Florida Gulf Coast this weekend, with the doubleheader beginning Saturday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. The second game will follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
