NASHVILLE, TN – Jordan Wood delivered a stellar performance with seven 3-pointers and 25 points, but the Stetson men's basketball team came up short, falling to Central Arkansas 77-72 at Allen Arena in the First Round of the ASUN Championship on Sunday.
The game kicked off with Mehki Ellison hitting a three-pointer. After the Bears responded, Wood followed suit, knocking down a shot from beyond the arc. Stetson quickly found itself trailing by six but rallied back as Wood drained a corner three to tie the game at 19. Finley Sheridan then hit a three of his own, putting the Hatters back in front. Wood took over next, scoring seven consecutive points to keep Stetson in the lead. However, Central Arkansas managed to tie it up again at 30. With the game knotted at 32, Wood sank his fourth three of the half, then added a steal and a layup, sending the Hatters into halftime with a 37-32 advantage.
The Hatters aimed to build on their lead after halftime, pushing it to seven points. However, that advantage didn't last long, as the two teams exchanged leads repeatedly until Central Arkansas eventually pulled ahead. Stetson kept battling back, cutting into the deficit several times. Massey drove to the basket and converted a layup to make it 61-60. A bit later, he sank two free throws to give the Hatters a 67-66 lead. On the defensive end, Massey came up with a key block, leading to a Wood three-pointer that tied the game at 69 with just over three minutes remaining. Central Arkansas responded with a four-point lead, but another Wood three brought it back to a one-point game at 73-72. Unfortunately, that was as close as Stetson would get, as they ultimately fell 77-72.
Wood led the Hatters with 25 points, adding two steals to his stat line. Treyton Thompson contributed nine points and six rebounds, while Sheridan added nine points off the bench. The Hatters were strong from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 threes on 26 attempts, with Wood hitting seven of them.
Stetson finishes the season with an 8-24 overall record and a 6-12 conference record.
