Stetson Hits Two Home Runs In 11-1 Win Over UMBC

Athens, GA – The Hatters capped off the Bulldog Classic with an impressive 11-1 victory over UMBC on Sunday, March 2.

Ava Braswell earned the win, tossing three no-hit innings. After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Stetson went to work offensively, providing Braswell with early run support. Addison Foster was hit by a pitch, and Madelyn Synoracki followed with a bunt single to third. Kami Eppley loaded the bases with a single up the middle, and McClerren brought in the first run with a single of her own. Nadia English reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in another run, giving the Hatters a 2-0 lead at the end of the first.

Braswell made quick work of the Retrievers in the second, and her offense added more runs. Devon Weller doubled to left field, and back-to-back walks to Gia Napoli and Foster loaded the bases. Synoracki singled to left, and Chumley reached on a catcher's interference, keeping the bases loaded. Eppley stepped up and launched a grand slam to right center, giving Stetson an 8-0 lead. The Hatters added one more run in the inning when Weller drew a walk, and McClerren scored.

Stetson tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third when Emily Santana blasted a rocket down the left field line. Caitlin Mullen relieved Braswell in the top of the fourth, tossing two innings and giving up one run. The Hatters completed the 11-1 victory in five innings.

Stetson will return home for the John B. Invite, hosting USC Upstate on Friday, March 7, at 3:00 p.m.
