DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters closed out play at the 2025 John B. Invite at Patricia Wilson Field with a stellar pitching performance, as
Kennedy Temples and
Ava Braswell combined for a 1-0 shutout win of the Bryant Bulldogs.
Temples (1-1) worked out of jam in the first inning, striking out the side after Bryant (6-10)loaded the bases with zero outs, and the Hatter offense rewarded her with a lead in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop
Addison Foster legged out a bunt single and ended up at second thanks to a throwing error. She then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by second baseman
Madelyn Synoracki before scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of centerfielder
Kami Eppley to give Stetson (16-9) the 1-0 lead.
That lead would be enough as Temples and Braswell allowed just four Bulldogs to reach scoring position over the games final 6.0 innings. Temples picked her first collegiate win on the back 4.0 innings of four hit softball that saw her strike out three batters Braswell earned her first save of the season while working the final 3.0 innings. She allowed three hits and struck out a pair.
Eppley turned in a 2-for-2 day at the plate, stealing a bag and driving in the game's only run, while Foster and designated player
Emily Santana each collected a hit. .
The Hatters continue their current 14-game home stand on Wednesday, welcoming the Arizona State Sun Devils for a doubleheader set to begin at 4:30 PM. Stetson then opens ASUN play this weekend, facing off with North Florida for a three-game set. The Hatters and Ospreys will play a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM on Saturday before closing out the series with a single game at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
