Lopez Homers, but Hatters Fall to Florida on the Road

Win Streak Snapped at Seven Games

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Stetson's seven-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night, as the Hatters fell 14-4 to the Florida Florida at Condron Family Ballpark. Despite the loss, sophomore Nelphie Lopez turned in a strong performance, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.

The Hatters (24-14) got off to a fast start, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Freshman Foster Apple drove in the opening run with an RBI single to right center, and Jordan Taylor followed with an RBI single to left, scoring Landon Moran from second.

After Florida trimmed the lead to 2-1, Lopez extended the Hatters' advantage in the third inning with a two-run shot to right field—his first home run of the season—giving Stetson a 4-1 edge. However, the Gators responded with 13 unanswered runs over the next four innings to hand Stetson their first loss since April 1.

Zane Coppersmith got the start on the mound for Stetson but did not factor into the decision, however, as junior Mason Davenport was tagged with the loss.

The Hatters will now turn their attention back to Atlantic Sun Conference play. Stetson, currently 13-2 in league action, travels to Charlotte to open a three-game series against Queens on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
