Hatters Plate 8 Runs Late in 13-4 Win over North Florida

Extend Streak to 15 Straight Conference Wins

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Stetson Hatters extended their conference win streak to 15 games on Friday, rallying from a sixth-inning deficit to roll past North Florida 13-4.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, Stetson exploded for 11 runs over the final four innings to pull away from the Ospreys. With the win, the Hatters improve to 28-15 overall and 17-2 in conference play.

Sophomore right-hander James Hays (3-0) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs over six innings, while striking out four. Fellow sophomore Jake Gorelick earned the save with three strong innings out of the bullpen, surrendering just one run on three hits with three strikeouts and no walks.

At the plate, junior Isaiah Barkett led the way with three RBI, going 1-for-5 with a double and a walk. Junior Jordan Taylor had a big day as well, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Freshman Foster Apple also chipped in, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. The Hatters were clutch with runners in scoring position, hitting .412 (7-for-17), and swiped five bases as a team.

Stetson got on the board in the third inning when Barkett scored to tie the game at 1-1. After the Ospreys briefly retook the lead, Apple's RBI single in the fourth brought the Hatters even once again at 2-2.

North Florida went up 3-2 heading into the seventh, but Stetson responded with a three-run inning. A game-tying RBI single from Nelphie Lopez, a go-ahead sac fly by Jayden Hylton, and an RBI single from Juan De La Cruz gave the Hatters a 5-3 lead.

The Ospreys trimmed it to 5-4, but the Hatters broke the game wide open in the eighth with five runs, highlighted by Barkett's three-run double. Stetson added three more in the ninth and shut down North Florida the rest of the way to seal the 13-4 victory.

The Hatters are back in action Saturday at 3:00 PM for game two of the series in Jacksonville.
