Isaiah Barkett Walks It Off in 10th Inning

Jonathan Gonzalez a no-decision despite another masterclass outing

DeLAND, Fla. – In a tense, scoreless battle that stretched into extra innings, Stetson third baseman Isaiah Barkett played the hero on Saturday night, delivering a walk-off single in the 10th to lift the Hatters to a 1-0 win over Queens at Melching Field.

The win clinched the ASUN series for the Hatters, who improved to 9-2 in conference play and 19-13 overall.

It marked the second walk-off victory of the season for Stetson, following Lorenzo Meola's game-winner against Mount St. Mary's earlier in the year. For Barkett, it was his second career walk-off hit with the program—his first came in a 7-6 win over Lipscomb on March 24, 2023. The junior from Oviedo led the Hatters at the plate tonight, going 2-for-5 with a double and the game's lone RBI.

Senior Ty Van Dyke (2-0) earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, two walks, and striking out three. Starter Jonathan Gonzalez turned in a dominant performance but received a no-decision despite 6.2 shutout innings. He allowed just three hits, walked one, and struck out 10—a season high and his best outing since striking out 11 of 16 batters in relief during the 2023 ASUN Championship. Alongside Justin Solimine, the Hatters' pitching staff held the Royals to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The breakthrough came in the bottom of the 10th. Pinch hitter Jayden Hylton opened the inning with a double to right-center, and freshman Sam Downey entered as a pinch runner. Juan De La Cruz laid down a bunt but Downey beat the throw to third. Then, with the game hanging in the balance, Barkett stepped up and delivered. The junior laced a sharp single back up the middle, sending Downey sprinting home and the Hatters pouring out of the dugout in celebration of a thrilling 1-0 walk-off win.

Stetson will look to complete the series sweep of Queens on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Melching Field.
