DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson Women's Basketball has announced another new addition to their coaching staff this summer. The Hatters bring in Matt Petersen as an assistant coach to round out Head Coach Lynn Bria's staff.
"I am deeply appreciative of Coach Bria for presenting me this opportunity. Stetson is a great academic institution, and Coach Bria is a phenomenal basketball coach who has created a great progra," said Petersen. "I am excited to work with her and the staff to continue the successful tradition of Stetson Basketball."
Petersen joins the Hatters after six seasons with the men's basketball program at Pacific University in Oregon, where he helped lead the Boxers to their first Northwest Conference Tournament appearance since 1999-2000 this past season.
During his tenure at Pacific, Petersen served as both offensive and defensive coordinator, guiding the team to top-four national rankings in scoring offense and leading the league in defensive efficiency in 2023-24. He was instrumental in the recruitment and development of eight All-NWC selections, including the national leader in assists and steals in 2022-23 and the NWC Freshman of the Year in 2020.
Petersen has also made impactful coaching stops across NCAA Division III, including Rhodes College, where he helped guide the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years and a Southern Athletic Association Tournament title in 2017. He later led recruiting efforts at Knox College, contributing to the program's first winning season in over two decades.
Petersen joins assistant coach Sydney Moss as the newest additions ahead of new seasons' campaign, bringing veteran experience and a strong foundation in player development and program building to the sidelines in DeLand.
