Gonzalez Selected by Philadelphia Phillies in 2025 MLB Draft

Stetson Ace Rounds out Four Hatter Draft Class

DeLAND, Fla. – One of the most dominant arms in college baseball this past season is headed to the professional ranks. Stetson ace and two-time All-America selection Jonathan Gonzalez was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 14th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, going 431st overall.

The redshirt-senior southpaw becomes the fourth Hatter selected in this year's draft, joining Lorenzo Meola (4th round, Giants), Isaiah Barkett (10th round, Giants), and Ty Van Dyke (10th round, Cardinals). It marks Stetson's largest MLB Draft class since 2018.

Gonzalez turned in a spectacular final campaign in DeLand, earning ASUN Pitcher of the Year honors while helping lead the Hatters to an NCAA Regional appearance. He finished the year 10-2 with a 1.83 ERA, a 0.96 WHIP, and 105 strikeouts over 93.2 innings. Opponents hit just .201 against him, and he recorded four double-digit strikeout games, including a statement performance in Stetson's NCAA Regional-opening win over NC State.

A Third Team All-American by D1Baseball.com and a First Team All-Southeast Region pick by ABCA/Rawlings, Gonzalez was one of just three players in the ASUN Conference to earn All-America honors from D1Baseball this season. He and Van Dyke represented Stetson on multiple national postseason teams — and now both will be taking the next steps to the big leagues.
