DeLAND, Fla. – Stetson men's soccer secured its first win of the season Thursday night at the Athletic Training Center, defeating Presbyterian 3-0 behind a standout performance from senior forward Andres Freire.
Freire, who missed the entire 2024 season while recovering from injury, provided an emotional spark off the bench. He broke through with the Hatters' first goal of the year late in the first half off a setup from Maurice Hauser, then doubled the lead with his second strike to cap a memorable return.
Team scoring leader from last season, Hauser, added his first tally of 2025 early in the second half, finishing a chance created by newcomer Weston DeSoto. Making his first career start, DeSoto collected two assists on the night, marking an impressive debut in the starting XI. Fellow newcomer Daniel Makowem also recorded his first career point in a Stetson uniform with an assist in the match.
Graduate goalkeeper Nicolo Radaelli anchored the back line with his eighth career shutout, tying him for fourth all-time in program history. Radaelli faced four shots and was credited with two saves, highlighted by a full-extension dive to deny a dangerous attempt and a crucial stop in a one-on-one breakaway.
With the victory, Stetson (1-2-0) turns its attention to Tuesday night's road test at Georgia Southern. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Statesboro, Ga., with the match airing live on ESPN+.
