DELAND, Fla. — Stetson lit up the scoreboard Saturday night at Spec Martin Municipal Stadium, routing Warner 59-13 behind an explosive offensive showing and opportunistic defense. The Hatters scored 24 points in the first quarter and never looked back, securing the first win of the Mike Jasper era.
Quarterback Kael Alexander set the tone through the air, completing 11 of 15 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns. The redshirt-freshman connected on six passes of 40-plus yards in his first career win as a starter, finishing with a record-setting night. Alexander established new Stetson single-game marks in passing yards per attempt (22.4) and yards per completion (30.6), while his passer efficiency rating of 327.5 shattered the previous record of 190.4 set in 2019. His 30.6 yards per completion was also the highest by an FCS player with 10 or more completions in a game since 2021.
His top target was Wyatt Rogers, who hauled in five receptions for a career-high 130 yards and his first collegiate touchdown. Alexander also delivered first career scoring strikes to Michael Dempsey (46 yards) and Dylan Redmon (67 yards). With those efforts, the Hatters as a team set program records for passing yards per attempt (18.8) and per completion (27.5), surpassing the previous best mark of 20.3 set in 2018.
The Hatters leaned heavily on their ground game as well, tallying five rushing touchdowns, Stetson's most in a game since 2019. Marvin Duffey Jr. powered into the end zone twice for the first scores of his collegiate career, Trey Clark added two touchdowns of his own, and Troy Flowers capped the night with an eight-yard run.
Defensively, Stetson forced two turnovers and stifled the Royals' passing attack. Simeon White II led the charge with a pair of interceptions, while Barrett Kennedy, Cade Davis, and Damontez McDowell each recorded sacks to keep Warner under pressure.
The fireworks started early. On the opening drive, Alexander hit Rogers in stride for a 53-yard touchdown to give the Hatters a 7-0 lead just 1:22 into the game. After a blocked punt by Jackson Barry set up a Daniel Holbrook field goal, Clark and Duffey each added short rushing touchdowns. By the end of the first quarter, Stetson held a commanding 24-0 lead.
The Hatters stretched their advantage before halftime, with Clark breaking free for a 10-yard score and Duffey adding a nine-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the second quarter. Stetson carried a 38-3 cushion into the break.
Alexander continued to air it out in the third, finding Dempsey and Redmon for long touchdown passes to push the margin to 52-3. Flowers punctuated the win in the fourth quarter with his scoring run to finish off a 90-yard drive. Warner managed two field goals and a late touchdown but never threatened Stetson's lead.
In all, Stetson piled up 528 total yards—357 through the air and 171 on the ground—while averaging 8.8 yards per play, tied for the second-best single-game mark in program history. The Hatters also set a new team passer efficiency record of 278.4, breaking the previous high of 246.8 set in 2018. Their 59 points marked the third-highest single-game total in school history, while their 528 yards of total offense ranked among the program's all-time top 10. Alexander's 336 passing yards also tied for seventh-most in a game by a Hatter.
After the final whistle, the celebration carried into the locker room, where Athletic Director Ricky Ray presented Jasper with the game ball as the team erupted around their first-year head coach.
The Hatters will hit the road for the first time next Saturday as they head to Tennessee for a date with the Chattanooga Mocs at 6:00 PM. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
