CARROLLTON, GA - Stetson Women's Basketball built a halftime lead and forced 16 turnovers Saturday afternoon but was unable to keep pace in the second half, falling 88-76 to West Georgia at The Coliseum.
The Hatters (10-7, 3-3 ASUN) led 49-47 at the break behind a strong second quarter and finished with 11 steals and 14 points off turnovers. West Georgia (12-5, 5-1 ASUN) countered with a decisive edge on the glass, out-rebounding Stetson 45-27 and converting 19 second-chance points to pull away late.
Stetson struck first as Aleah Sorrentino opened the scoring with a layup off a feed from Promise Keshi. The opening quarter featured multiple lead changes before the Wolves closed on a late three to take a 24-19 advantage after one. Eva Bradshaw knocked down an early three for the Hatters, who trimmed a larger deficit with a late run to stay within striking distance.
The Hatters found their rhythm in the second quarter, erupting for 30 points. Cameron Thomas sparked the rally with a pair of three-pointers, including one late in the period that pulled Stetson within one. Keshi capped the surge by jumping a passing lane and finishing a fast-break layup with two seconds remaining, sending the Hatters into halftime with a 49-47 lead.
West Georgia regained momentum coming out of the break, outscoring Stetson 19-13 in the third quarter. Jasmine Jones hit a key three late in the frame as the Wolves reclaimed the lead, while Stetson leaned on interior scoring and second-chance opportunities to stay close. The Hatters trailed 66-62 entering the final period.
Stetson briefly pushed ahead early in the fourth. Jorah Eppley drilled a three-pointer before Thomas connected again from deep to give the Hatters a one-point lead with 8:35 remaining. West Georgia responded with a decisive run, controlling the paint and the defensive glass down the stretch to close out the 88-76 victory.
