DELAND, Fla. – The Stetson men's and women's rowing programs will open their 2026-27 seasons this weekend at the 61st Head of the Charles Regatta, held October 16-18 along the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts.
One of the most prestigious events on the rowing calendar, the Head of the Charles attracts thousands of competitors from around the world, including collegiate programs, national teams and Olympic athletes. Established in 1965, the regatta features a challenging three-mile course with multiple bridges and sharp turns, testing both the speed and technical ability of participating crews.
Unlike traditional side-by-side racing, crews compete in a head-race format, beginning at staggered intervals with placements determined by their finishing times.
Both Stetson programs will compete in the Collegiate Fours on Sunday, October 18, with the men's race scheduled for 1:20 p.m. and the women's race following at 1:59 p.m.
The Stetson men return to Boston looking to continue an impressive stretch of success at the Head of the Charles, having reached the podium in each of the last three editions.
Last season, the Hatters earned silver in the Men's Collegiate Four, finishing second among 40 crews with a time of 16:06.213, just 2.551 seconds behind Jacksonville University. The performance followed another runner-up finish in 2024 and the program's historic first-place finish in 2023.
Three members of last year's crew return to the boat this weekend, including Samuel Tise, Endrik Brettmann and coxswain Alexander Moore. Joining them are Ian Harres and Gyula Nyéki, while Tarik Bayman will serve as the team's spare.
The Hatters will look to carry that momentum into the new season after concluding the 2025-26 campaign with a silver medal in the Second Varsity Four at the Dad Vail Regatta and an appearance at the IRA National Championship.
The Stetson women will also open their season in the Collegiate Four, returning to the Charles River looking to build on their previous appearances at the prestigious regatta.
In 2024, the Hatters finished 27th among 49 entries in the Women's Collegiate Four, completing the course in 19:34.139.
This year's lineup features Ella Glover in the stroke seat, followed by Sienna Meany in the three seat, Lily Caramadre in the two seat and Lily Citta in the bow. Sofia Cornetto will serve as coxswain.
Glover returns as one of the program's experienced competitors, having earned First Team All-MAAC recognition in 2025 and Second Team All-MAAC honors in 2026.
Fans attending the regatta can watch from several locations along the Charles River, including Weeks Footbridge, the Weld Exhibition area and the Eliot Bridge Enclosure. Spectators are encouraged to use public transportation, as parking is limited and portions of Memorial Drive will be closed during race weekend.
Those unable to attend can follow the action through the event's official livestream on The Rowing Channel, with live results and race information available through RegattaCentral.
Following this weekend's competition, both programs will return to DeLand to host the Head of the Further South on November 14.
