Home For Homecoming

After spending four of its first six games on the road, Stetson returns to Spec Martin Memorial Stadium for Homecoming Weekend and its third home contest of the season.

The Hatters opened their home schedule with a 45-10 victory over Webber International on Sept. 5 before returning to Spec Martin for their Pioneer Football League opener against Marist on Oct. 3. Saturday's matchup with Presbyterian marks Stetson's first home appearance since that conference opener.

The early portion of Stetson's schedule has featured trips to No. 3 South Dakota State, Bethune-Cookman, No. 11 UC Davis and St. Thomas. The Hatters have played just two of their first six games in DeLand, making Saturday's Homecoming matchup a return to familiar surroundings following last week's trip to Minnesota.

Stetson enters Saturday averaging 361.8 yards of total offense per game, including 259.5 yards through the air. The Hatters have totaled 2,171 yards of offense through six games and have surpassed 299 total yards in each of their last five contests.

Passing Game Continues To Grow

Stetson's passing attack has continued to develop into one of the offense's most consistent strengths.

The Hatters have thrown for more than 330 yards in each of their last two games, recording 335 against Marist and 334 at St. Thomas. Those performances give Stetson 669 passing yards over the last two contests.

Through six games, the Hatters have totaled 1,557 passing yards and nine passing touchdowns while averaging 259.5 yards through the air per game. Stetson has completed 151 of 250 pass attempts and has produced 69 of its 106 first downs through the passing game.

The offense also posted a season-high 458 total yards last weekend at St. Thomas, combining 334 passing yards with 124 yards on the ground. It marked Stetson's second-highest total offensive output of the season behind the 500-yard performance against Webber International.

Stetson By The Numbers

Stetson averages 259.5 passing yards per game   •   The Hatters have recorded 106 first downs
The defense has totaled 28 tackles for loss, six sacks and 18 pass breakups through six games
Von Grote Directing The Offense

Junior quarterback Thomas von Grote enters Homecoming Weekend having thrown multiple touchdown passes in each of Stetson's last two games.

Von Grote has completed 133 of 221 passes for 1,395 yards and nine touchdowns through six games. He is averaging 232.5 passing yards per contest and has thrown just three interceptions in 221 attempts.

He has thrown a touchdown pass in five consecutive games, beginning with a three-touchdown performance in Stetson's 45-10 win over Webber International. Von Grote threw for 320 yards in that victory before following with 192 yards at Bethune-Cookman, 219 at UC Davis, 273 against Marist and 296 at St. Thomas.

Against the Tommies, von Grote completed 28 of 52 attempts for 296 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. One week earlier, he completed 32 passes for 273 yards and two scores against Marist.

His recent production has pushed him to 1,395 passing yards on the season, while his 1,440 yards of total offense account for the majority of Stetson's offensive production through six games.

Rogers Remains The Top Target

Senior captain Wyatt Rogers continues to pace the Stetson receiving corps and enters Saturday following another productive afternoon.

Rogers caught nine passes for 94 yards and a touchdown at St. Thomas, giving him nine receptions in back-to-back games. He totaled 103 receiving yards against Marist the previous week and has accumulated 197 yards over Stetson's last two contests.

Through six games, Rogers leads the Hatters with 36 receptions for 435 yards and two touchdowns. He is averaging 72.5 receiving yards per game and has reached at least five receptions in five consecutive contests.

Rogers' season includes a pair of 100-yard performances. He caught five passes for a season-high 123 yards and a touchdown against Webber International before finishing with nine catches for 103 yards against Marist.

Jones Finding The End Zone

Shawne Jones has emerged as Stetson's most frequent touchdown target over the last two weeks.

Jones enters Saturday tied for the team lead with four touchdowns despite appearing in just four games. He has caught 19 passes for 195 yards and is averaging 48.8 receiving yards per appearance.

Three of those four scores have come in Stetson's last two games. Jones caught touchdown passes of 10 and 11 yards against Marist before adding a 25-yard score at St. Thomas.

He also set a season high with eight receptions against the Tommies, finishing with 77 yards as Stetson scored twice in the fourth quarter.

Multiple Weapons In The Passing Game

Rogers has led the Hatters statistically, but Stetson continues to receive production throughout its receiving corps.

Landon Farco has caught 24 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown in five appearances. His season includes a 95-yard performance at Bethune-Cookman and 10 receptions against Marist.

Jones follows with 195 yards and four touchdowns, while Troy Flowers has added 175 receiving yards and a score. Flowers has also rushed for 228 yards, giving him 403 yards from scrimmage through six games.

Anthony Benzija has 15 catches for 132 yards and a touchdown, while Malachi Townsend has totaled 100 yards on 11 receptions.

Six different Hatters have already reached 100 receiving yards this season, giving the offense multiple options at all levels of the field.

Bentley Moves Into The Lead

Linebacker Shug Bentley enters Saturday as Stetson's leading tackler after moving to the top of the defensive chart last weekend.

Bentley has recorded 39 tackles through six games, including 13 solo stops and 26 assists. Damontez McDowell follows with 34 tackles in five appearances, while Dylan Kelly has totaled 33.

Freshman Jahlani Clarke has added 29 tackles, Nycere Jacobs has 27 and Casey Bending and Barrett Kennedy have 22 apiece.

Bending and Kennedy share the team lead with 3.5 tackles for loss, while Alex Yearwood leads Stetson with 1.5 sacks. Jacobs has recorded 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Stetson has totaled 28 tackles for loss through six games. The Hatters recorded six tackles behind the line of scrimmage at St. Thomas, matching their total from the previous week against Marist.

Corrado DeSantis recorded his first interception of the season at St. Thomas, picking off a pass deep in Stetson territory during the second quarter. Dylan Kelly owns the Hatters' other interception this season.

Jahyden Clark leads the secondary with four pass breakups, while Kelly and Julian Sampson have three apiece. Clarke has also added two breakups.

As a team, Stetson has recorded 18 pass breakups and two interceptions through six contests.

Last Time Out

Stetson is coming off a 64-21 loss at St. Thomas last Saturday at O'Shaughnessy Stadium in St. Paul.

The Hatters answered the Tommies' opening touchdown with an 11-play, 75-yard drive in the first quarter. Von Grote converted a key fourth down with a completion to Jones before Flowers broke off a 25-yard run. Von Grote then found Rogers for a 3-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

St. Thomas built a 36-7 advantage by halftime and extended its lead in the third quarter, but the Hatters continued to generate offense throughout the second half.

Stetson drove 70 yards during the third quarter, with Farco recording receptions of 13 and 36 yards and Rogers converting a third down. The drive reached the St. Thomas 5-yard line before ending on downs.

The Hatters then scored on each of their first two full possessions of the fourth quarter.

Stetson first marched 86 yards from its own 14. Von Grote completed passes to Flowers, Benzija and Isaiah Baker before connecting with Jones for a 25-yard touchdown.

After St. Thomas answered, quarterback Chris Stephenson helped Stetson strike again. He completed a 22-yard pass to Kai Pruitt on third-and-13 before breaking free for a 48-yard touchdown run.

The Hatters finished with 458 yards of total offense, 334 passing yards and a season-high 24 first downs. Von Grote threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns, Rogers caught nine passes for 94 yards and Jones finished with eight receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.
