Comana's Game-Winner Lifts Hatters Past Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stetson earned a 3-2 road victory over Jacksonville on Sunday at Southern Oak Stadium. Ava McKay, Payton Quinones and Stella Comana each scored for the Hatters, who put seven of their eight shots on goal.

After Jacksonville took an early lead in the 16th minute, Stetson responded quickly. McKay found the back of the net at 19:44 to even the score at 1-1. Hailey Shelly had put the Hatters' first shot on target earlier in the half, while Danica Wittmann made several key saves to keep Jacksonville from extending its lead. Stetson weathered additional pressure before halftime, including two Jacksonville corner kicks, and carried the tie into the break.

The Hatters took control early in the second half. After defending a pair of Jacksonville shots and corner kicks, Stetson created opportunities of its own, including a Sophia Baldwin attempt that struck the left woodwork at 56:18. Quinones broke the tie at 58:43, giving the Hatters a 2-1 advantage, and Comana added another goal at 62:37 to extend the lead to 3-1. Comana's goal was her first of the season and proved to be the game-winner.

Jacksonville answered 27 seconds later to cut the deficit to one, setting up a tense final stretch. The Hatters stayed composed defensively, with Wittmann finishing with four saves in 90 minutes, and held on to secure the 3-2 victory. Despite being outshot 20-8, Stetson made the most of its opportunities, putting seven attempts on target and converting three into goals.
