McCoy Scores in Hatters' 2-1 Loss to Jacksonville

DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer fell 2-1 to Jacksonville on Thursday night at the Stetson Athletic Training Center. Eva McCoy scored the Hatters' lone goal off an assist from Stella Comana in the second half.

The Hatters finished with 13 shots, including seven on goal, and earned corners in the closing minutes while looking for an equalizer. Jacksonville recorded 16 shots and eight on goal, with both teams finishing with six saves.

Stetson created several opportunities in the first half, putting together a stretch of five shots and a corner kick between the 12th and 22nd minutes. Jacksonville goalkeeper Taylor Gardner turned aside attempts from Comana twice and Ava McKay, while Clare Boesel made saves on Saki Sanno and Madelyn Radtke to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

McCoy broke through in the 64th minute, finishing Comana's assist to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead. Jacksonville responded with two goals to take the lead, leaving Stetson looking for an equalizer in the final minutes.

The Hatters continued to push, generating shots from Natalia Dorn, McKay and Aubrey Wells and earning two corner kicks in the final eight minutes. Gardner made a save on Dorn's attempt in the 89th minute to preserve Jacksonville's lead.

Hatters Top Performers Up next, the Hatters host North Florida on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Stetson Athletic Training Center in DeLand, Florida.
