DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson Women's Basketball heads into one of its biggest weeks of the season riding a four-game win streak, traveling to Jacksonville on Thursday for a marquee ASUN matchup before returning home Saturday to host FGCU at the Edmunds Center.
The Hatters (15-8, 8-4 ASUN) will face Jacksonville (16-7, 8-4 ASUN) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Swisher Gymnasium in a pivotal contest between two teams currently tied in the conference standings. Stetson then returns to DeLand for a 2 p.m. tipoff Saturday against FGCU.
Stetson enters the week coming off a dominant two week stretch, earning a 74-56 road win at North Florida before rolling past Bellarmine 76-41 at home in the past week. The victory over the Knights marked the program's largest margin of victory over a conference opponent since 2018 and extended the Hatters' winning streak to four games.
Cameron Thomas continues to lead the way offensively, pacing the ASUN with 396 total points and 17.2 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the field and a league-best 39.8 percent from three-point range. The senior guard has scored 15 or more points in 13 of 23 games this season and has reached the 20-point mark eight times. She is also closing in on a career milestone, sitting at 926 Division I points and needing 74 more to reach 1,000 in just two seasons at the D-I level.
Mary McMillan remains the engine of the Hatters' offense, leading the ASUN with 102 assists and 4.4 assists per game while ranking first in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1). In Saturday's win over Bellarmine, McMillan surpassed the 100-assist mark for the second consecutive season, becoming the first Hatter since McKenna Beach (2017-18, 2018-19) to record back-to-back 100-assist campaigns. She is one of only two players in the ASUN to reach that milestone this season. McMillan is also averaging 12.1 points per game and ranks among the conference leaders with 32 three-pointers.
Graduate forward Aleah Sorrentino anchors the interior for Stetson, leading the team with 181 rebounds and 7.9 boards per game, ranking third in the ASUN. She is averaging 11.3 points per contest and has recorded four double-doubles this season. Sorrentino eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark earlier this year and recently put together a seven-game stretch of 14 or more points, highlighted by a season-high 20-point performance at North Florida.
As a team, Stetson leads the ASUN in three-point shooting percentage at 33.9 percent, knocking down 198 threes on 584 attempts. Thomas (66 threes) ranks near the top of the league, while McMillan (32) also sits among the conference's top perimeter threats.
Thursday's matchup with Jacksonville marks the 55th meeting between the programs, with Stetson holding a 36-18 advantage in the all-time series and winning the last meeting 68-63 in DeLand. The Dolphins are led by preseason All-ASUN selection Priscilla Williams, who averages 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game and recently set a program record with a 44-point performance against Central Arkansas. Jacksonville enters the week averaging 63.2 points per game and has matched the Hatters with an 8-4 conference mark.
Stetson will then turn its attention to FGCU, the ASUN champions for the eighth consecutive season. The Eagles enter the week 11-12 overall and 7-5 in league play and will face North Florida before traveling to DeLand. FGCU averages 63.2 points per game while allowing 59.8, the third-lowest scoring defense in the ASUN, and leads the conference in three-point shooting at 37.9 percent. Nay Staton (11.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and Sinai Douglas (11.0 ppg, 3.3 apg) pace the Eagles offensively. FGCU has won the last eight meetings in the series.
