JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cameron Thomas poured in a game-high 21 points and Aleah Sorrentino added 20 as Stetson Women's Basketball earned a 74-56 road win over North Florida Thursday night at UNF Arena.
The Hatters (14-8, 7-4 ASUN) shot efficiently from beyond the arc, controlled the paint, and pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure their third straight conference victory. Stetson finished with a 42-30 advantage in points in the paint while holding the Ospreys to just 39.2 percent shooting from the floor, including 15 percent from three-point range.
Stetson and North Florida traded baskets early before the Hatters found separation late in the first quarter. After the game was tied at 13, Promise Keshi scored inside to spark a 7-0 run that gave Stetson a 20-13 lead with just over two minutes remaining. The Hatters leaned on their perimeter shooting in the opening frame, knocking down four three-pointers, and carried a 20-16 advantage into the second.
The Hatters took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Ospreys 24-16. Mary McMillan scored twice in the opening minutes, while Jorah Eppley connected on a pair of three-pointers to stretch the lead. Stetson later rattled off an 8-0 run midway through the period to push its advantage to double digits. Sorrentino capped the half with a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Hatters into the break with a 44-32 lead.
North Florida made a push coming out of halftime, trimming the margin to single digits late in the third quarter, but Stetson remained composed. Thomas knocked down a key three-pointer in the closing minutes, and the Hatters entered the final period up 56-48.
Stetson put the game away early in the fourth. Thomas opened the quarter with another three before the Hatters went on a decisive 10-0 run, highlighted by a Keshi layup, to extend the lead to 66-48 with 7:10 remaining. Stetson dominated the interior down the stretch, scoring 12 of its 18 fourth-quarter points in the paint, and held North Florida to just eight points in the final 10 minutes to close out the 74-56 victory.
Stetson also won the rebounding battle, 29-27, behind a game-high 10 boards from Keshi, and turned 13 offensive rebounds into 17 second-chance points.
Stetson returns home for the first time in three games on Saturday, hosting Bellarmine at 2:00 p.m. inside the Edmunds Center in DeLand.
