Hatters Fall to West Georgia 7-3

Pitching staff tosses 12 strikeouts in the loss

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson was unable to overcome an early deficit Saturday night, falling 7-3 to West Georgia in the second game of the ASUN series at Melching Field.

The Hatters (10-14, 2-3 ASUN) battled back after a tough start but couldn't fully recover despite strong efforts at the plate from Juan De la Cruz and Foster Apple.

West Georgia jumped out early, plating five runs in the second inning to take control of the game. The Wolves added to their lead in the fourth and sixth innings, building a 7-2 advantage.

Stetson responded in the third inning to cut into the deficit. De la Cruz reached and swiped second to spark the rally before Apple delivered an RBI single up the middle. A throwing error allowed an additional run to score, bringing the Hatters within 5-2.

The Hatters continued to compete late, adding another run in the seventh. De la Cruz singled and eventually came around to score on Apple's second RBI of the night, trimming the deficit to 7-3.

On the mound, Brayden Toro provided a strong performance out of the bullpen, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three to keep Stetson within reach. Connor Ball also delivered a solid outing in relief, recording five strikeouts across 4.1 innings without issuing a walk.

Offensively, De la Cruz set the tone at the top of the lineup, collecting three hits and swiping three bases, while Apple drove in a pair of runs to lead the Hatters.
