Hatters Use Six-Run Third to Roll Past Queens

DeLAND, Fla. — Stetson closed out the weekend with a commanding 9–1 win over Queens on Sunday at Patricia Wilson Field, improving to 22-14 on the season and 7-2 in ASUN play.
The Hatters broke the game open with a six-run third inning, highlighted by a pair of home runs, and never looked back.

Stetson got on the board in the second inning. Gabby David reached on an infield single and advanced on a throwing error before Logan Forman's single moved her to third. David scored on another error, and Forman later came home on a groundout by Madelyn Synoracki to give the Hatters a 2–0 lead.

Queens answered with a run in the top of the third, but Stetson responded with its biggest inning of the day. Annabella McClerren led off with a solo home run, and after the Hatters loaded the bases, David was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Gaby Bauer then delivered the decisive blow with a grand slam—her second home run of the season—pushing the lead to 8–1. Bauer's grand slam tied the program record for the most grand slams in a season for the team.

Stetson walked it off in the fifth when McClerren singled home pinch runner Jahnnie Patterson.

In the circle, Hayley Arnold turned in another strong performance, allowing just one run on two hits over four innings. She walked one and struck out two while keeping Queens in check. Ava Braswell closed out the game with a scoreless inning in relief.

Stetson Top Performers Head coach Shellie Cousins emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent offensive approach and finishing strong.

"We talk about having the same approach every at-bat and just being productive, whether that's a hit by pitch, a bloop single, or a grand slam," Cousins said. "It's about staying consistent and not changing what we do. We also stress finishing the weekend the right way—there's no taking a day off just because you've had success earlier in the series."

Cousins also praised the pitching staff, highlighting Arnold's recent performances against top competition.

"Hayley's had a really strong week for us, especially only giving up three runs to the third ranked team in the country and did awesome all weekend," Cousins said.

Stetson returns to action Wednesday, April 1, hosting #3 Florida at 6:00 p.m. at Patricia Wilson Field.
