JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Stetson (34-20) advanced to the ASUN Tournament Semifinals with a 4–2 victory over North Florida (38-21) on Thursday at the ASUN Championship. The Hatters will now face top-seeded Central Arkansas on Friday.
Stetson totaled eight hits and took advantage of two North Florida errors while limiting the Ospreys to just four hits.
Nicole Edmiaston,
Irianis Garcia, and
Madelyn Synoracki each recorded multi-hit performances to help lead the Hatters offensively.
The Hatters struck first in the second inning.
Madelyn Synoracki singled to left field, and a North Florida fielding error allowed
Gia Napoli and
Nadia English to score, giving Stetson a 2–0 lead.
Stetson added another run in the third inning with two outs. Garcia started with a double, followed by a walk from Chumley and
Logan Forman bringing
Gabby David to the plate. David drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Garcia home and extend the lead to 3–0. Garcia's run marked her 52nd of the season, moving her one shy of tying the program's single-season record.
In the fourth inning, Synoracki singled and later scored on an RBI single by Edmiaston to push the Hatters' advantage to 4–0.
North Florida answered in the fifth inning with a two-run home run from Addyson Bruneman, trimming the deficit to 4–2, but the Hatters' pitching staff held firm the rest of the way.
Ava Braswell earned her 18th win of the season after pitching 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while walking one.
Hayley Arnold closed out the final 2.2 innings in relief, allowing no runs while issuing two walks to earn her second save of the season.
"That first game is a big one especially when you have the two day bye. Our girls were ready and hyped to get going and they kept the energy up all day. We played great defense, pitchers threw well and we had just enough offense to get the job done," said Head Coach
Shellie Cousins.
