DELAND, Fla. — Stetson scored three times in the opening half and never looked back, rolling to a 4-1 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday night at the Stetson Athletic Training Center for its second consecutive win.
The Hatters struck quickly as Justin Blanco opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, finding the back of the net for the first goal of his collegiate career. Afonso Conde doubled the advantage later in the half, scoring for the second straight match and recording his team-leading second game-winning goal in as many games.
Maurice Hauser made it 3-0 before halftime, converting from the penalty spot while also adding an assist during the opening 45 minutes. Stetson carried the three-goal advantage into the break after putting three of its six first-half shots on frame.
Presbyterian pulled one back in the second half, but the Hatters answered late as William Mills capped the scoring with his second goal of the season and first career goal at home to secure the 4-1 final.
Stetson finished with a 16-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-5 edge in the second half, and put eight attempts on target while holding the Blue Hose to three. Hauser paced the attack with five shots to go along with his goal and assist, while Conde put both of his attempts on frame. Matthew McCall and Reef Brain split time in goal and combined for two saves.
The Hatters also spread the production around, with Andre Casas, Daniel Makowem, Weston DeSoto and Israel Daniels joining Hauser with assists. Four different Hatters accounted for the four goals.
With the victory, Stetson improves to 2-4-1 overall and has now outscored its opponents 6-1 during its two-match winning streak. Presbyterian falls to 0-6-0.
Stetson continues its homestand Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Hatters welcome Queens for a 7 p.m. ASUN matchup at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.
