DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer put together its most complete performance of the season Saturday, defeating Eckerd 3-0 at the Stetson Athletic Training Center. The Hatters led 1-0 at halftime before adding two goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half to secure the shutout.
Ava Mckay led the way with two goals, including the first two goals of her career, while
Stella Comana recorded the first multi-assist match of her career with two assists.
Amelia Majtczak also scored the first goal of her career, while
Julianna Liguori picked up her first career assist.
The Hatters finished with 10 shots, putting nine on goal, while
Clare Boesel made eight saves during 80:55 in goal.
Mackenzie Caprez played the final 9:05 as Stetson held Eckerd scoreless for the shutout.
Stetson created the first two chances of the match, with
Eva McCoy and
Payton Quinones each forcing saves from Eckerd goalkeeper Madi Winn during the opening seven minutes. Eckerd answered with pressure of its own, earning two early corner kicks and putting shots on frame, but Boesel came through with saves to keep the match scoreless.
The Hatters broke through in the 25th minute when Mckay finished a setup from Comana at 24:12 to give Stetson a 1-0 advantage. The goal marked the first of Mckay's career. Stetson continued to create opportunities through the remainder of the half, with
Abigail Dibble and Comana each adding shots, while Boesel made another save on a Madison McKeon attempt. The Hatters weathered two late Eckerd corner kicks and carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Stetson quickly added to its advantage after the break. Majtczak scored her first career goal at 47:05, converting Liguori's assist to make it 2-0. Just over four minutes later, Mckay found the back of the net again, finishing Comana's second assist of the afternoon at 51:34 to give the Hatters a three-goal cushion.
Boesel continued to protect the lead throughout the second half, making saves in the 46th, 47th and 52nd minutes. Eckerd continued to generate chances, including a shot that hit the left post in the 62nd minute and several corner kicks and shots through the 73rd minute, but Stetson kept the Tritons off the scoreboard.
The Hatters continued to pressure the Eckerd defense late, with
Hailey Shelly and McCoy each putting shots on goal in the 89th minute. Stetson closed out the final minutes to secure its 3-0 victory and first shutout of the season.
