Nick passed away on August 28, 2017, as the result of a cardiac event. While he is no longer with us, his spirit remains a constant presence within the Hatters' football program. Each week the player who earned the Special Teams Player of the Week award is given the honor of wearing Nick's jersey number 37 in the following weeks' game. Nick is also memorialized by the Smiling Hearts Foundation, which works to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in student-athletes.

Has two brothers, Ryan Brown and Jared Blakely, and two sisters, Shayla Blakely and Paige Blakely ... His cousin, Kenny Monday, was a three-time All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State and won a pair of Olympic medals (gold in 1988 and silver in 1992) ... His grandfather, Ernie Fields, Jr., is a musician and producer who has worked with acts such as Marvin Gaye, Rick James and B.B. King ... Is an Accounting major.
