Summer (2017): Joined with Stetson teammates Brooks Wilson and Austin Hale as a member of the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Collegiate League ... Was named to the All-League team ... Earned the Thomas Yankus Pitching Award ... Posted a 2-2 record in 37.1 total innings of work over nine games, with eight starts ... Had a 1.93 ERA for the summer and recorded 39 strikeouts while walking just six ... One of his wins came against Chatham and Stetson teammate Jack Perkins.
Sophomore (2017): In a conference loaded with top quality pitching, Gilbert stood out above all the rest, earning ASUN Pitcher of the Year honors in addition to being a first team All-Conference selection ... Became the third Stetson pitcher to earn ASUN Pitcher of the Year honors, joining Corey Kluber in 2007 and Kurt Schluter in 2011 ... Was spectacular throughout the year, posting a perfect 10-0 record with a 2.02 ERA in 15 appearances, including 12 starts ... Recorded 107 strikeouts on the year, good for third in the ASUN behind only teammates Brooks Wilson (127) and Jack Perkins (108) ... Was second overall in the ASUN in ERA, opposing batting average (.202) and tied for the league lead by allowing just one home run ... Was even more dominant in league play, posting a 6-0 record with a 0.94 ERA and 54 strikeouts against just nine walks in 47.2 innings of work ... Had two complete games and one shutout ... Was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week twice ... His 18 total strikeouts against FGCU were the third most in a game by any pitcher in Division I in 2017 ... That performance left him one strikeout shy of the school record, which was set by George Tsamis against
Bethune-Cookman in 1986 ... Started his outing against FGCU by striking out the first 10 batters he faced ... While no records exist on consecutive strikeouts, there are only a few such streaks known ... Navy’s Luke Gillingham posted 12 consecutive Ks against North Carolina A&T on opening day, 2015; Bethune-Cookman’s Ali Simpson struck out the first 10 against Alabama A&M on Feb. 19, 2011; and Wake Forest had a pitcher named Cuthrell who struck out 13 straight against West Virginia in April of 1914 ... Jared Weaver also had 10 straight Ks to open a game twice for Long Beach State in 2004, against BYU and USC ... Retired the first 23 batters in the game before hitting a batter with two out in the eighth ... He lost his no-hit bid to open the ninth inning and finished by allowing two hits in the complete-game shutout ... For his performance, Gilbert was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week and was also recognized by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America, Perfect Game and College Sports Madness as national Pitcher of the Week ... Earned his second ASUN Pitcher of the Week award for a complete game performance against UNF (5/14) in which he allowed one unearned run on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts ... Finished the season ranked 22nd in the nation in ERA, 49th in K/9, 13th in wins, 46th in total strikeouts, 48th in hits/9 and 37th in WHIP ... Was named to the ASUN All-Academic team as well as to the ASUN Academic Honor Roll.
Summer (2016): Played for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken Collegiate League ... Posted a 4-0 record with a 1.89 ERA in eight appearances, including seven starts, during the regular season ... Started, and won, the opening game of the league championship series ... Recorded 34 strikeouts while allowing 17 walks in 33.1 innings pitched with a 1.89 ERA, third best in the league ... Was selected to the All-Star game and was named to the All-League team at the end of the season ... Was named by Perfect Game and Baseball America to their top prospects lists for the Ripken League.
Freshman (2016): Appeared in 21 games, five as a starter ... Posted a 2-1 record with a 2.74 ERA ... Worked 49.1 innings, allowing 19 runs (15 earned) on 44 hits ... Struck out 43 while allowing 27 walks ... Had a season-high six strikeouts while allowing a hit and one unearned run over 5.0 innings for a win over The Citadel on April 3 ... Pitched 4.2 shutout innings, allowing four hits with three strikeouts, against nationally ranked Miami on March 9 ... Struck out four in three shutout innings against Dartmouth on March 22 ... Earned his first collegiate win against Siena on February 24 ... Hatters were 9-12 in games he pitched in.
High School: Was both a pitcher and first baseman for coach Jason Sanders ... Blossomed as a junior, posting a 2.15 ERA ... His growth as a player continued in the summer of 2014 as a member of the Orlando Scorpions, helping that team post a 14-2 record in tournaments in Atlanta and Ft. Myers. In addition to his performances on the field, Gilbert maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA and is a member of multiple honor societies ... He is ranked among the top 500 prospects in the nation by Perfect Game, including No. 75 in the state of Florida ... Was a 2015 Perfect Game honorable mention All-American and All-Florida Region ...
