Steve Trimper served as the head coach of Stetson Baseball from 2017-26, compiling a 305-226 (.574) overall record and a 138-91 (.603) mark in ASUN Conference play. Over his 10 seasons in DeLand, he guided the Hatters to three ASUN Tournament championships (2018, 2024 and 2025), two ASUN regular season titles (2018 and 2024), three NCAA Regional appearances and the program's first Super Regional appearance in 2018. He finished his 28-year NCAA Division I head coaching career with a 786-692-4 (.532) overall record.
Trimper coached 26Â All-ASUN honorees during his Stetson tenure, including one Player of the Year (Brooks Wilson, 2018), three Pitchers of the Year (Logan Gilbert, 2017 & 2018; Jonathan Gonzalez, 2025), one Defensive Player of the Year (Lorenzo Meola, 2025), and two Freshmen of the Year (Daniel Paret, 2019; Kyle Jones, 2024). Under his leadership, 15 Hatters were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, highlighted by first-round selection Logan Gilbert, while numerous others signed professional contracts.
The 2018 season stands among the greatest in program history. The Hatters finished 48-13, tying the school record for victories while winning both the ASUN regular season and tournament championships. Stetson hosted and won the NCAA DeLand Regional for the first time in program history before advancing to its first NCAA Super Regional. The Hatters also posted a program-record 18-game winning streak, finished ranked in every major national poll, led the nation in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts, fewest hits allowed per nine innings and shutouts, and produced six MLB Draft selections, including first-round pick Logan Gilbert. Trimper was named ASUN Coach of the Year.
Following the program's resurgence in the mid-2020s, Trimper guided Stetson to consecutive ASUN Tournament championships and NCAA Regional appearances in 2024 and 2025. The Hatters recorded back-to-back 40-win seasons for the first time since 1988-89, highlighted by a 41-win campaign in 2025 that featured a program-record 24 conference victories, a 15-game ASUN winning streak, five conference series sweeps and the program's best NCAA RPI (63) since 2018. Stetson also produced four MLB Draft selections in 2025, while Jonathan Gonzalez and Ty Van Dyke earned All-America honors.
In the fall of 2022, Trimper was inducted into both the Manhattan College Athletics Hall of Fame and his alma mater, Kittatinny Regional High School, recognizing his contributions to the sport.
Trimper is also a published author, releasing Walk-Off Winning with Wiley & Sons in 2020, which reached No. 3 on Amazon's new releases list. Beyond coaching, he served as an associate professor in Stetson's School of Business, teaching Business Ethics, and delivered keynote presentations on organizational leadership to more than 200 businesses and organizations, including Wyndham Resorts, Franklin Templeton, New Balance and numerous law enforcement agencies. He also helped secure more than $25 million for capital projects and endowments while serving on multiple NCAA committees, including the NCAA Baseball Regional Selection Committee.
Prior to arriving at Stetson, Trimper spent 11 seasons as head coach at the University of Maine, compiling a 309-292-2 record while leading the Black Bears to two America East Tournament championships and NCAA Regional appearances. He also served as head coach at Manhattan College for seven seasons, earning MAAC Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Jaspers to a school-record 32 victories in 2002. Before becoming a head coach, he served as an assistant coach at Vermont and Wentworth College while also managing the Eastern Tide of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Trimper is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, where he was a member of the Warriors' 1990 NCAA Division III National Championship team. He earned his master's degree from the University of Vermont in 1997. He and his wife, Lisa, have twin daughters, Ally and Morgan.
