Is one of the Hatters’ four captains for the 2018 season ... Needs seven more strikeouts for post his second consecutive 100 strikeout season ... If he reaches that milestone, it would give Stetson three hurlers with 100 or more strikeouts for a second consecutive season. 

Junior (2018): Was dominant in ASUN play, posting a 7-0 record with a 2.11 ERA in seven league starts to earn first team All-ASUN honors ... Gave an eighth strong performance against a league foe in the ASUN Tournament, working 7.2 innings against Jacksonville (5/25), allowing two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts ... Opened his 2018 season with 7.1 innings shutout of work against Manhattan (2/17), allowing just one hit with 10 strikeouts ... Lasted just 3.2 innings against George Washington (2/24), allowing seven earned runs in a loss ... Took a no-decision after working 5.2 innings against Central Michiga (3/3) ... Earned his second victory with six shutout inning against Richmond (3/10) ... Worked six innings in a no decision against Rhode Island (3/17), allowing just two unearned runs ... Struggled with his command in a start at Maryland (3/24), allowing three walks and hitting four batters (consecutively) in taking his second loss ... The four straight hit batters established a new Stetson record ... Brounced back against Bethune-Cookman (3/29) to earn the first of eight consecutive wins, allowing one unearned run on two hits ... Earned the only Stetson win at Kennesaw State (4/7) and followed with wins over Lipscomb (4/14), NJIT (4/21), North Florida (4/28), Jacksonville (5/5), FGCU (5/12) and USC Upstate (5/17) ... Was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week following his complete game victory over the Dolphins. 

Summer (2017): Played for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Collegiate League ... Made seven starts during the summer, recording 23 strikeouts in 27.1 innings of work ... Was 0-4 wth a 5.93 ERA. 

Sophomore (2017): Had an outstanding sophomore season as a regular member of the Hatters’ weekend rotation ... Made 17 appearances on the mound with 13 starts ... Posted a 7-5 record with one save and a 2.71 ERA in 99.2 innings of work ... Finished sixth in the ASUN in ERA and ninth in opponent batting average ... Finished second on the team, and in the ASUN, with 108 strikeouts ... Averaged 9.75 K/9 for the year ... Best outing of the season came on the road at Tulane (3/25) when he went the distance, allowing just one run on six hits with a career-high tying 13 strikeouts and no walks in a 5-1 Stetson win ... Was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week for that performance ... Also had 13Ks in eight innings of work in a 9-2 victory at The Citadel (3/11) ... Earned his only save of the year with four innings of shutout work with six strikeouts at USF (4/26) ... Made a start at first base on opening day, but was hitless in four at bats on the year ... Was named to the ASUN Academic Honor Roll. 

Summer (2016): Played for the Ocean State Waves of the New England Collegiate Baseball League ... Posted a 3-2 record with a 2.70 ERA in nine appearances, all starts ... Worked 43.1 innings with 28 strikeouts and 18 walks. 

Freshman (2016): Appeared in 15 games, starting six ... Hatters were 7-8 in games in which he pitched ... Worked 34.1 innings, allowing 45 runs, 34 earned, on 61 hits ... Had an 8.91 ERA ... Struck out 37 batters and walked 19 ... Had a season-high eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings against Central Michigan (3/6) ... Pitched 3.1 innings and allowed no earned runs, while striking out three against Winthrop (3/20) ... Had five strikeouts over 4.1 innings against Creighton (2/28) ... Had one hit in 12 at bats on the year with a walk ... Was hit by pitch twice. 

Summer (2015): Played for the Rangers in the JUCO Summer League ... Appeared on the mound in six games, starting two ... Posted a 2-1 record with a 3.91 ERA in 19.2 innings of work ... Recorded a team-high 31 strikeouts while walking 11. 

High School: Was a four-year letter winner for coach Nelson Menendez ... Also played on the freshman football and basketball teams ... Completed his senior season with a .315 batting average with two home runs and 15 RBI in 18 games in the field ... Posted a 2-3 record in eight appearances on the mound with a 2.29 ERA, recording 49 strikeouts in 33.2 innings of work ... Had a great junior season, hitting .429 in 23 games while posting a 6-2 record in 11 pitching appearances with a 0.45 ERA ... Had 98 strikeouts in 62 innings of work as a junior ... For his prep career, he hit .345 with four home runs and 68 RBI in 96 games ... As a pitcher he was 19-14 with a 1.90 ERA in 40 starts with 278 strikeouts in 210.1 innings ... Helped the Buffalo to three consecutive district titles and earned All-District honors twice ... Was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association All-State team in 2014 ... Plays for former MLB star Chet Lemon’s Juice travel team in the summer ... Was a Perfect Game All-American in 2013 and 2014 and was named to the All-Tournament team for the WWBA Underclass Championships ... Before high school he led a team to the 2010 Cal Ripken National Championship, earning championship game MVP honors ... Off the field he has a 4.3 weighted GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society ... Rated by Perfect Game as one of the top 400 prep players in the nation and ranked No. 60 in the state of Florida. 

Personal: Full name is John Ryan Perkins ... Was born on August 6, 1997, in Germantown, Maryland ... Is the son of Karen and Randy Perkins ... Has two brothers, RJ (22) and Will (18), and one sister, Courtney (28) ... His father was a pitcher at the University of Florida (1979-80) ... His great uncle, Marvin Goodwin, played in the Major Leagues for the Washington Senators, St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds from 1916-25 ... He died following the 1925 season as the result of a plane crash and is believed to have been the first professional athlete killed in a plane crash ... Is a Business Systems and Analytics major.
