At Stetson
  • Brian Sheppard officially joined the Stetson coaching staff in February of 2022, serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach
At Minnesota (2020-21)
  • Served for two seasons as an offensive analyst and quality control coach for head coach P.J. Fleck
  • Helped develop the offensive scheme for the Golden Gophers by evaluating opponent defensive structure, tendencies and personnel
  • Worked with the teams' quarterbacks on development including fundamentals and defensive recognition
  • Provided weekly team self evaluation to identify tendencies and efficiency in all areas
  • Assisted with recruiting by evaluating prospects nationally
At Virginia Military Institute (2018-19)
  • Served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach
  • Was responsible for installing an entirely new offensive scheme for the Keydets
  • Produced the offensive game plans, organized practices and served as the offensive play-caller
    • Offense completed 302-of-523 passes for 3,082 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2018, ranking seventh nationally in passing yards and fourth in completions per game
    • Keydets improved their completion percentage in 2019, connecting on 306-of-479 passes for 3,276 yards and 19 touchdowns, ranking 11th in nationally in passing offense and fourth in completions per game
      • Quarterbacks set an FCS record by throwing 368 consecutive passes without an interception
    • Running back Alex Ramsey earned All-Conference honors, rushing for 1,326 yards to rank sixth nationally and scoring 22 rushing touchdowns to lead FCS
    • Receivers Jakob Herres and Kris Thornton earned All-Conference honors
      • Herres had 72 receptions for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns in 2019
      • Thornton had 87 receptions for 1,003 yards and four touchdowns in 2018
    • Overall, the VMI offense ranked eighth in passing in 2018, improving by 156 yards per game over the previous year
At Northern Arizona University (2017)
  • Served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for one season
  • Installed a new offensive scheme and served as play-caller
  • Team finished second in the Big Sky Conference in total offense, averaging 30.2 points and 430.8 yards per game
At Indiana State University (2013-16)
  • Served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Sycamores
  • Added assistant head coach duties for his final two seasons
  • Installed a new offensive scheme and served as play-caller
  • Helped ISU reach the FCS playoffs in 2014, the first such appearance for the Sycamores since 1984
  • Team posted the best single-season turnaround in college football, going from 1-11 in 2013 to 8-6 in 2014 with an FCS playoff win
  • Program spent 21 weeks ranked in the FCS top 25 during the 2014 and 2015 seasons
  • Quarterback Mike Perish earned All-Conference honors, throwing for 3,717 yards and 24 touchdowns for the fourth ranked offense in FCS
At Willamette University (2012)
  • Served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach
  • Changed the offense to a multiple, spread-based, attack that ranked 10th in the nation in total offense an fourth in passing offense
  • Quarterback Josh Dean earned All-Conference honors by passing for 3,445 yards and 34 touchdowns
At West Virginia Wesleyan (2011)
  • Served as offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and academic coordinator
  • Installed a new offensive scheme and oversaw all aspects of game planning, practice planning and play calling
At UCLA (2010)
  • Served as tight ends coach
  • Mentored future NFL tight end Joe Fauria
At New Mexico State (2007-09)
  • Served as tight ends and inside receivers coach
  • Oversaw the punt team, kickoff return team and PAT unit
At the University of Tulsa (2006)
  • Served as assistant quarterbacks coach and as an offensive quality control coach
  • Helped the Golden Hurricane to a berth in the Armed Forces Bowl
As a player
  • Spent two seasons at Saddleback Junior College in California where he played quarterback in 2001-02
  • Spent the 2003 season as a quarterback, receiver and team captain at Southeastern Louisiana University
  • Finished his playing career at Baker University in Kansas where he served as the quarterback and team captain
  • Attended Redmond High School in Washington
Recruiting
  • Has recruited virtually every corner of the country
    • Covered Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona and southern California while at New Mexico State
    • Recruited Idaho, Utah, Las Vegas and southern California while at UCLA
    • Added recruiting duties in Maryland, Pennsylvania, northern Ohio, Texas and Louisiana while at West Virginia Wesleyan
    • Picked up the Cincinnati/Dayton areas as well as southeastern Indiana while at ISU
    • Added eastern North Carolina and Virginia Beach during his time at VMI
Personal Information
  • Is the son of long-time college and NFL coach Mike Sheppard
  • Considers Long Beach, Calif., to be his home town, but has lived all over the country
  • Received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Baker University in 2006
  • His wife, Victoria, was an All-Conference and Academic All-Conference swimmer at New Mexico State
  • The couple has two children, Sophie (5) and Brady (2)
  • Is active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
  • Enjoys playing golf and traveling
