Playing Career
  • Virginia Tech - 2003-07
    • Only player in his freshman class to play in all 12 games his first year
    • Starter as a kick returner and on the punt return team for coach Frank Beamer's famed special teams
      • Blocked punts during his freshman and junior seasons
    • Led team in receptions, receiving yards and kick return yards as a junior and senior
    • Helped team play in four bowl games including the 2005 Sugar Bowl as part of the BCS
    • Earned All-ACC honors in football and track and field as a senior
  • Green Bay Packers - 2007
    • Selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, 157th overall
  • New York Jets - 2007-10
    • Signed to the active roster in 2007
    • Selected as special teams captain while playing on the kickoff coverage, punt team and punt rush team
    • Made first NFL start at receiver in 2008
      • Led team in receptions and receiving yards in multiple game
      • Helped Jets advance to the AFC Championship game
  • Carolina Panthers - 2010-11
    • Started first three games of the 2010 season at receiver
    • Led the team in special teams production during the 2019 season

Personal Information
  • Established the David Clowney Foundation in 2008
    • A non-profit geared toward supporting underprivileged youth with educations endeavors with the goal of promoting academic excellence and the pursuit of higher education
    • Was named Alumni of the Year in 2018 by Virginia Tech's Influential Black Alumni Awards as a result of his charitable efforts
  • Was born in Amityville, NY, but grew up in the Delray Beach area of Florida
    • Earned All-State honors at Atlantic Community High in football while also competing on the basketball and track teams
