His father played college football at Auburn as a running back and is a professional bass fisherman on the FLW tour since 1997
His grandfather, John Wilson, played college football at Western Kentucky and later served as an SEC official
His uncle, Tommy Barker, played for the Detroit Tigers in the 1950s and 60s
Another uncle, Lloyd Merritt, pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1950s and 1960s and is currently a scout for the Atlanta Braves
His cousin, Jay Barker, led Alabama to the 1992 National Championship as the teams’ quarterback, posting a 35-2-1 career record as a starter
Barker won the Johnny Unitas Award and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1994
After a professional career in the NFL and CFL, Barker is now a sports radio personality in Birmingham
