Sean Woods

Sean Woods

Sean Woods begins his first season as an assistant coach at Stetson.

A standout as a player at Kentucky, Woods has spent nine seasons as a head coach at the Division I level, most recently at Morehead State where he compiled a 77-70 (.524) record in five seasons (2012-16). Woods led the Eagles to a pair of 20-win seasons, including a 23-win campaign and a runner-up finish in the CBI in 2015-16.

Prior to his stay in Morehead, Woods spent four seasons as the head coach at Mississippi Valley State (2008-12), where he improved the Delta Devils from seven wins in his first season to 21 victories and an NCAA Tournament berth in his fourth and final season.

Woods and Williams have been friends since the summer before their senior years of high school, when they met at a top prospect camp in Indiana.

Woods began his collegiate coaching career in 2003 as an assistant at High Point. From there he moved on to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the 2005-06 season, before landing at TCU for two seasons (2006-08).

A member of the UK Athletic Hall of Fame, Woods played at Kentucky from 1988 to 1992, appearing in 91 total games. Woods may be best known as one of the “Unforgettables” from Kentucky’s 1992 East Regional final team. He scored 21 points against Duke in the regional championship in what is largely regarded as one of the NCAA Tournament’s most memorable games.

Woods still ranks as Kentucky’s all-time leader in career assists-per-game (5.30) and career steals-per-game (1.58).

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Woods in 2013 was named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team.

Woods and his wife, Dashaynia, have two sons: Martiese and DeSean.
