AT STETSON
Andrew Rouse, a former Stetson rower and three-time team captain, joined the Stetson Athletics staff in September 2021 as an assistant rowing coach… Now working primarily with the women's rowing program, Rouse brings firsthand knowledge of Stetson, extensive competitive rowing experience and a background in athlete and program development. A native of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Rouse spent four seasons competing for the Hatters before returning to DeLand as a coach… His connection to the program provides Stetson's student-athletes with a unique perspective from someone who helped build the rowing program as both a student-athlete and coach.

COACHING THE HATTERS
Rouse works with Stetson's women's rowing student-athletes in technical development, daily training and race preparation… His experience competing at the collegiate, national and high-performance levels provides a strong foundation for his work with the Hatters. His familiarity with Stetson also allows him to connect directly with the University's student-athletes and understand the demands of balancing academics, athletics and development within the rowing program.

STETSON PLAYING CAREER
Rouse was a four-year varsity rower for Stetson and served as a team captain three times… When he joined the Hatters, he was one of only two rowers on the men's roster. By the time he graduated in 2017, the program had grown to more than 20 student-athletes, giving Rouse firsthand experience with the process of building and developing a collegiate rowing program. As a senior, Rouse helped Stetson compete at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia… He was part of the Varsity 4+ that advanced to the grand final, marking a first in program history.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE ROWING
In addition to his collegiate career at Stetson, Rouse competed with the Oklahoma City National High Performance Center, a U.S. Olympic training site, along with Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia and Potomac Boat Club in Washington, D.C. Rouse was part of crews that earned two runner-up finishes at the U23 National Team Trials… He also became a five-time national champion at the USRowing National Championship Regatta. His international experience included a gold medal in the U23 Heavyweight Quad at the 2016 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

COACHING BACKGROUND
Before returning to Stetson, Rouse gained coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels… He spent one season as assistant women's rowing coach at Winter Park High School before becoming head rowing coach and boathouse director at Lake Brantley High School. During two years leading Lake Brantley, Rouse helped grow the program from 38 athletes in 2018 to 72 by the spring of 2020. Rouse later spent one season as the men's freshman and novice coach at Purdue University before returning to his alma mater.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY & DEVELOPMENT
Rouse's background as a former Stetson student-athlete, high-performance competitor and program builder provides a broad perspective in athlete development… His experience includes working with novice rowers, experienced collegiate athletes and national-level competitors. That range of experience has shaped his approach at Stetson as he helps develop the women's rowing program while emphasizing technical growth, competitiveness and long-term athlete progression.
EDUCATION
Rouse earned a Bachelor of Arts in public management from Stetson University in 2017… Was a member of the Academic Honor Roll and participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during his time as a Hatter. He is also a USRowing Level II Certified coach.
PERSONAL
A native of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Rouse resides in DeLand… Outside of rowing, he enjoys fishing, particularly catch-and-release fishing for large species including tarpon, bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammerheads.
