Matt Hunter came to Stetson in October of 2021 from the world of professional baseball where he served as a strength and conditioning coach for the Toronto Blue Jays at their Player Development Complex, and with the Dunedin Blue Jays in Dunedin Florida since 2019. With the Blue Jays, he developed individualized training programs for players in a variety of contexts including in-season performance, out-of-season development, and collaborating with the Blue Jays Medical Department to support injury rehabilitation and return to play programs.
He began his professional career working as a sports performance coach at Athletic Lab in Cary NC in 2016, where he was later promoted to Director of Scholastic Training. While at Athletic Lab, Hunter also served as strength and conditioning coach for NC Football Club’s USL level men’s team.
A 2015 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Hunter logged more than 2,000 hours of internship experience while getting his degree with renowned strength and conditioning coaches including Mike Boyle, Eric Cressey, and Dr. Mike Young. While in college, Hunter twice earned NCAA Division III All-American accolades. Once in the Decathlon and once in the Heptathlon for the Ohio Wesleyan Batting Bishops, achieving school records in both. As a track & field athlete in high school, Hunter was the Massachusetts state runner up in 2011 in the 110m hurdles for Lexington High School, also achieving the school record in the event.
A native of Lexington Massachusetts, Matt and his wife Caroline currently live in nearby Sanford, Florida.
