Affectionately referred to as "Pup" around the athletic department, Steve Barnard has been in his current position as field maintenance technician for Stetson Softball since 2011.

Barnard's day-to-day job requires routine field upkeep - such as mowing, watering and fertilizing. One a game day, his job can keep him at the field all day - from arrival at 6:30 a.m. to get the field ready for a tournament day or doubleheader, to as late as 9:30 p.m. in order to make sure the playing surface is proper shape to do it again the next day.

Under Barnard's leadership, Patricia Wilson Field was named STMA Collegiate Field of the Year in 2011, 2017 and 2019.

Before coming to Stetson, Barnard was employed as the facility foreman for the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand, where he worked for more than 25 years.

A native of DeLand, Barnard graduated from DeLand High School and went on to play baseball at St. John's College in Palatka. He and his wife, Debbie, have a daughter, Tessa.
