Former JUCO All-American and Florida High School 5A Player of the Year DeAngela Mathis begins her second season as Director of Basketball Operations for the Stetson women's basketball program.

Mathis earned all-Southland Conference honors as a senior at Lamar University where she averaged 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds-per-game. Â In conference play she averaged 15.8 points-per-game and dropped in 35 against Houston Baptist on Senior Night. Â Mathis was also an active member of Lamar's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and she earned multiple spots on the school's Dean's List.

Mathis previously played two seasons at Florida State College at Jacksonville where she earned WBCA junior college All-America honors as a sophomore.  She averaged 17.8 points and 10.7 rebounds for the Blue Wave, helping lead the team to an 18-11 record.  She was also ranked 55th among the nation’s junior college prospects.

Mathis played prep basketball at Southeast High School in Bradenton, Fla., leading the team to the FHSAA 5A state championship as a senior with a 31-1 record. She was named Florida Dairy Farmers Class 5A Player of the Year. She was also a three-time Manatee County Player of the Year and three-time team MVP, finishing her prep career with more than 1,600 points scored.

A native of Manatee County, Fla., Mathis received an Associate of Arts Degree in Sports Medicine from FSCJ in 2016. Â She graduated from Lamar with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology in 2018.

She has volunteered with several community service programs including Habitat for Humanity.
