Matt Petersen

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Matt Petersen served as an assistant coach for the Stetson women’s basketball program during the 2025-26 season.

In his lone season in DeLand, Petersen helped guide the Hatters to a 20-12 overall record, marking the program’s first 20-win season since 2021-22. Stetson advanced to the ASUN Championship semifinals and earned a berth in the WNIT, continuing its success in postseason play.

Petersen brought a strong background in player development and program building, contributing to a Stetson team that featured multiple All-ASUN performers and ranked among the conference’s most efficient offensive groups.

He joined the Hatters after six seasons with the men’s basketball program at Pacific University in Oregon, where he played a key role in the Boxers’ resurgence and helped lead the program to its first Northwest Conference Tournament appearance since the 1999–2000 season.

During his tenure at Pacific, Petersen served as both the offensive and defensive coordinator, guiding the team to top-four national rankings in scoring offense and a league-best mark in defensive efficiency during the 2023–24 season. He was instrumental in the recruitment and development of eight All-Northwest Conference selections, including the nation’s leader in assists and steals in 2022–23 and the NWC Freshman of the Year in 2020.

Petersen’s coaching experience also includes impactful stops across NCAA Division III. At Rhodes College, he helped guide the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years and a Southern Athletic Association Tournament championship in 2017. He later led recruiting efforts at Knox College, contributing to the program’s first winning season in more than two decades.
